Year Four!

Here comes Summer! We’ve been exploring fractions and decimals as we reach two thirds of the way through the year. Next term:

Writing Our first tranche of writing will be developing our biographic skills, finding out about The Beatles. There will be vinyl in the classroom!

Enquiry This half term we will explore The Tudors (all those wives, divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded survived) and the reign of the first Queen Elizabeth.

Science We will understand how useful classification is, whether putting animals, plants or children into classes.

DT After the fun of pneumatic power, we are taking a food focus and will be creating our own summer picnic dips.

French returns as we develop the language to discuss and write about our family.

Music Orchestral musical instruments will be coming home (once the paperwork’s complete) as NYCC are bringing a range of large and small instruments for the children to learn to play.

PSHE These lessons progress from the theme of Healthy Me to how we form and maintain appropriate relationships.

RE We continue our study of Christianity, in particular considering how Christians understand Pentecost.

PE This half term, PE is on Wednesday afternoon and for this the children need: outdoor pumps/trainers, black shorts/tracksuit bottoms/leggings, a white T-shirt and black or grey sports sweatshirt.  The children will be learning to play rounders.

Indoor Shoes Children change into their black indoor shoes when they arrive in the morning.  Changing their shoes helps keep their working environment as clean as possible. Thank you for sending these in.

Reading We ask that the children to read three times a week at home and we do monitor this, obviously more is even better though!

School Uniform School uniform continues to be grey skirt/trousers, white skirt, green jumper, plain black/grey/white socks/tights or green gingham summer wear.  Each child should wear a house or responsibility tie.  Everyone needs a pair of indoor black shoes.

Water bottles The children keep a water bottle for access during breaks.  We ask that this is not a single use bottle and only contains water.

Homework Homework is issued on a Friday and due back the following Thursday.  Participation and completion has been really impressive – thank you. It has meant many children have earnt a homework pass from Miss Harrison – well done!  It is returned marked to each child, should you wish to review it with your child.

TTRS Thank you to everyone who is encouraging their child to play one game of TTRS a day.  There is a national test at the year end and those that are practising regularly are on track to do well in it.

Spellings As ever it wouldn’t be school without weekly spelling tests, the children stick the new words in their Reading Records each week. Thank you for prompting them to practise them at home.

Please email with any queries or concerns (r.debney@maltonprimary.org), or catch me at the classroom door.  I continue to post on the School’s Instagram account so that we can share classroom life – thanks for the likes! I will be out of the classroom on a Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning with other responsibilities, please relay any messages via Ms Plues-Clark who will be covering in my absence.  Thank you.
