Welcome back!

Welcome back after a welcome half-term break. The first half term flew by; the children have worked hard and made good progress.

Please see the programme of study from last half term – Year 6 overview

This half term we are looking at the following:

Maths – We will be focusing on long division and fractions.

Times tables are a big part of our maths lives and children need to be fluent in these at Year 5. Please can you ensure your children are practising these at home and also use TTRS. If you need your child’s login details, please ask a member of the Year 5/6 team.

Writing – Our writing this half term is based on The Piano- A Wartime flashback, which is an animation. We will be creating a narrative piece of flashback writing and also an autobiography of the old man in the film.

Reading – Our texts we will be focusing on this half-term is The Valley of Lost Secrets, The Secret Lake and The Secret Gardens.

Science – In Science this half-term we are looking at circuits. We will be looking at the universal symbols, how to create a circuit and what things in a circuit can affect the brightness of a bulb, or the loudness of a buzzer.

Geography -We are looking at climate change and how this affects us.

RE – In RE, we are looking at Creating and Science.

In Art we are capturing conflicts.

In PSHE, we are looking at how we are all different and celebrating this fact.

PE is on a Monday this half-term and we will be looking at Outdoor & Adventurous Activities. Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit.

School Uniform School uniform continues to be grey skirt/trousers, white skirt, green jumper, plain black/grey/white socks/tights or green gingham summer wear.  Each child should wear a house or responsibility tie.  Everyone needs a pair of indoor black shoes.  Long hair should be tied up, earrings should be studs.

Homework Homework sheets come out weekly covering topics we’ve learnt in class, spellings and practising handwriting. Homework refreshes and consolidates learning the children have undertaken in class.  It is issued on a Friday and due back the following Thursday.  Participation and completion has been really impressive – thank you.

Thank you for your continued support.

If you have an queries, please do not hesitate to contact any of the Year 5/6 team.
