Where is our place in the world?

We have had a busy couple of weeks since we returned from Easter. Some of the children have been having fun investigating the challenges a Moto GP rider would face and what we would have to do to become one! Others have been investigating animlas which live in extreme environments and which challenges they face.

Thank you for all of the lovely home learning which the children are continuing to bring in on a Monday morning. It is very obvious that they have enjoyed finding out and exploring our key questions during this enquiry.

We have started to think about our next enquiry 'Where is our place in the world?' this week. We kicked it off with our trip to Filey as we asked ourselves how it is similar and different to Malton. The children had a wonderful (if not wet and chilly!) time exploring the beach and becoming beach explorers. We will continue to take our learning forward by thinking about our likes and dislikes of Filey and Malton. Please talk to your child about what makes Malton special and the types of things we have here. You may like to visit the train station, take a walk through orchard fields or even see where the cattle market takes place, so they can appreciate what they have in the local area.

We have recently been investigating money in our numeracy learning. We have discussed the values of coins and notes and what they look like. Help your child at home with this by inviting them to pay for small amounts in local places or discussing money at home.

Finally, We will be starting our P.E sessions again on Thursday's. These will be outdoor sessons where possible, so the children will need to come prepared with appropriate clothing. Please send a kit including trainers and a navy/black jumper (for the colder days).

As always, we appreciate you co-operation and support. Please do not hesitate to approach a member of staff if you have any questions or queries.

Rachel Vasconcelos Beth Chaplin.
