Hello, and welcome to a new week! I hope you all had a lovely weekend and are ready for our new learning activities?
This week we have our usual reading,writing and numeracy activities in addition to History, Science. The two optional activities are for celebrate World Music Day and an opportunity to enter a NYMR history and art competition.
Reading - W/C 22nd June - The Clock Tower
Over the last few weeks, we have been looking at Julia Donaldson texts. This week we will be watching and responding to a short video https://www.literacyshed.com/the-clock-tower.html
Please watch the video and then get children to answers the following questions; 1. Who is the main character in this film? 2. Is she happy? 3. What is her job? 4. Where does she live? 5. Does she live in a nice place? If yes/no why? 6. What name would you give her? 7. Why does everything change when she goes outside? 8. How does the story make them feel? 9. Is this an adult's of children's story? Can they explain why? 10. What do they think might happen next? 11. How has the girl ended up here? There is no need for anything to be written down for this session.
If you have time please also try spend 5mins a day going through the set 2 and 3 RWI sounds or tune into Ruth Miskin UTube channel for her daily phonics sessions.
Writing - W/C 22nd June - The Clock Tower
https://www.literacyshed.com/the-clock-tower.html (video) Over the year we have looked at fiction stories and some fairy tales. This week's writing task is to either write a prequel or sequel to the film. This means children will need to write about what the think happened before (prequel) this film or what might happen next (sequel) Remind them of the features of fairy tales (see word mat for ideas) They have good and evil characters, magic, a happy ending, castles and a prince. You might need to prompt them with questions like, Who put the girl in the tower? Who is going to rescue her? They only need to write two or three sentences for whichever task they choose.
An example would be;
Prequel - Once upon a time there was a young girl who upset her evil step mother by dancing all of the time. She put her in a clocktower, forcing her to stay there. She told her that if she left the clock tower the world would end.
Sequel - One day the a prince heard the beautiful music playing in the clock tower and decided to going and explore what it was that was making such a lovely sound. He found the girl and forced his sword into the clock mechanism to break the spell. They fell in love and lived happily ever after. Please lined paper for writing to encourage good letter formation and handwriting.
Numeracy - W/C 22nd June - Partitioning Numbers
This week's numeracy task is all about partitioning numbers which means breaking up numbers into different parts. Please watch the video attached and have a go at the accompanying worksheet. History 3 - W/C 22nd June - Grace Darling

Science 2 - W/C June 22nd June - Animal body parts
In the last session we looked at the different body parts that are responsible for our senses for example our eyes help us to see. In this session we will be looking at the different body parts of animals. 1. Play the game, what am I? Using these examples; I have four legs, fur, a wet nose and sharp teeth? I have no legs and a slippery body? I have wings and with symmetrical patterns on them and antenna? I have gills, fins and I am gold? I have big ears, dry skin and a trunk? I have 8 legs and am hairy? I have whiskers, a long tail and tiny ears? I have a beak, wings and I eat fish? 2. Next discuss say each of the following body parts. Can they name an animal with this feature? tail, tongue, scales, antenna, pouch, wings, paws, gill, hoof, shell, webbed feet, feathers 3. Finally, complete one of the labelling activity attached (there is more than one sheet - choose the one that matches your child's ability, they get progressively more difficult) If you have more time there are some wonderful documentaries on animals on BBC Iplayer on animals for children to watch. OPTIONAL EXTRA - W/C 22nd June - NYMR Drawing Competition
NYMR is inviting parents who are home schooling due to the current pandemic to encourage their children to think about what the railway might have looked like during wartime and put pen to paper to draw their interpretation of it. To enter, entrants must send their drawings to , including name, age, school and favourite teacher. Optional Extra - W/C 22nd June - World Music Day
Sunday 21st June was world music day so to celebrate this here are some fun activities for the artist of the month Frank Sinatra. Complete the sheet attached and listen to the suggested some and perhaps some others if you have time.
