I hope you are all enjoying the beautiful sunshine and keeping yourselves safe and well. I wanted to share some information about support for parents and carers with home reading and phonics whilst the school closures remain in place.
Ruth Miskin Training have a fantastic Youtube channel that has many resources available for you to help your children to continue learning to read at home. I know how important this is even during this incredibly challenging time.
Here is a link to their website https://www.ruthmiskin.com/en/find-out-more/help-during-school-closure/ and I have copied all of the information for you below:
RWI Phonics lessons at home
We're streaming three, short Speed Sounds lessons for children to watch at home every weekday on our YouTube channel. Each lesson is ten minutes long and available for 24 hours.
Repeats of lessons streamed up until Friday 3rd April will be shown during the Easter holidays (6th - 17th April excluding Bank Holidays).
• Set 1 Speed Sounds 9.30 am (BST) - for children in Nursery and Reception and children who are new to English
• Set 2 Speed Sounds 10.00 am - for children in Reception that can read Set 1 Speed Sounds and for children in Year 1 and 2
• Set 3 Speed Sounds 10.30 am - for children in Year 1 and 2 that can read Set 2 Speed Sounds
After the Easter holidays, we will:
Continue Sets 1, 2 and 3 Speed Sounds lessons
Add lessons to help children read words with Set 1 Speed Sounds and spell words with Set 1, 2 and 3 sounds
Don't worry if you miss a lesson. Once each set has been shown, we will replay one a day from each set.
Storytime with Nick
From Monday 20th April, we are releasing Storytime with Nick; films of well-loved stories read by Nick Cannon, a trained actor, teacher and trainer and a wonderful storyteller. Three stories will be published each week on our YouTube channel and are ideal for Nursery, Reception and KS1 children. So far, we are filming stories by Jeanne Willis, Tom Percival, Jill Murphy, Cressida Owen and Claire Freedman. Most films will be available for the period of school closure.
Poetry Time films
We have added Poetry Time films to YouTube and PDFs of the poems to the Home Reading page of the website. The films will stay on YouTube so children and parents can join in and enjoy them again and again.
