Class Walliams Autumn 2

Class Walliams have been so busy this Autumn!

This term we are exploring the First World War. The children have been asking the following questions:

  • What is Remembrance Day about?
  • Was Malton affected by World War 1?
  • How did World War 1 affect people?

We have been focussing on the Scarborough bombings to give children a sense of the destruction that was caused and how it affected local people.

Literacy focus:

Class Walliams have recently been on a school trip to the York Art Gallery. We were able to take part in creating lots of art work. The children visited the Edible Garden and used their senses to explore and develop their vocabulary. We have been using this vocabulary to inspire our descriptive writing in class.

Our class story is currently the BFG by Roald Dahl. The children were able to visit the BFG exhibition inside the art gallery and were able to use this to deepen their comprehension of the story.

We are continuing to work on the children's small steps in literacy, building their confidence with sentence structure, spellings and the mechanics of writing. Please help your children to improve their spellings by completing the spelling homework sheets when they are sent home.

Maths focus:

In maths, the children are currently focussing on addition and subtraction. We are working on using formal written methods (the column method), and we are beginning to use exhanging when needed. Your child has recently been sent home with their Times Table Rockstars login. Please continue to practice timestables and number bonds at home to improve their fluency.

PE is every Wednesday morning with Mr Allman. Please ensure your child has their PE Kit with them on this day. We will ensure they are sent home every half term to be washed, and sooner if needed. Mr Allman has started lunchtime football and running clubs. If they are participating in any outdoor clubs please remind children they will need outdoor trainers.

We have noticed that a few of our class members do not have the correct footwear for indoor shoes. Please can you ensure that they have a pair of black indoor plimsolls that are clearly named.

Thank you for your continued support. If you have any further questions, please feel free to pop in and see us
