Hello Summer!

Welcome back children and parents in Class Oaks. I hope that you all enjoyed a wonderful Easter break after all of your hard work last term. In the last few days we have launched our new enquiry “Why do we like to be by the seaside?” Children are enjoying exploring the activities associated with visiting the beach and looking at our trips have changed over time. We would be most grateful if you have any photographs at home from your or your parents’ holidays from the past. In Geography we will be focusing on where our local Seaside’s are and on their natural features. In Literacy we are continuing to work on our letter formation and ability to use our phonological awareness to sound out words to form simple sentences. We are also working on remembering to leave spaces between our words. Later on in the term we will be moving onto looking at animals that live by the sea. It is hoped that the class will have the opportunity to visit a beach as a culmination of all of their work on this topic. Further information and a letter will follow shortly.

In PSHE Jigsaw Jack and the class are looking at relationships we have with hour families and our friends. This links closely with our weekly metacognition lessons where we have begun a topic of regulating our feelings and emotions.

In PE we are developing our running, throwing and jumping skills in preparation for Sports Day. In Music we are looking out developing our ability to identify the pulse of a track and whilst learning a song in the genre of ‘funk’.

With the National Phonics Screening tests approaching, our focus in RWInc will be continuing to work through the remaining sounds from Set 3 sound list (see attached list) Please can you continue to ensure that you are reading daily with your child to help support us with our efforts in school. Please let me know if there is anything I can do in supporting you with this.
