Eco Committee - Meeting 2

We’ve held our second – outdoor – meeting and against the background of challenging weather and playground noise launched the Envrionmental Review process.  The pair of Committee members from each year group took a copy of the Review document to complete from the perspective of their bubble in School.  Mrs Scott and I met with the Year 1 and Year 3 team today to help – although Mika and Gracie really did not need my company!

We’re looking forward to meetingPowerdown Pete for a whole-school assembly over Teams on Thursday!

This week in Oaks

This week has flown by! I have been so proud of the children as they continue their learning journeys. The learning they are doing in 'Read Write Inc' has set them on the road to reading and writing. The children have set up their own classroom and have been practising the letter sounds independently. We have been reading 'The Fox in the Dark'. The children have loved playing in the Fox's den as well as creating masks to role play the story. Some children have chosen to write some of the words from the tale.

Talking about words, we have been exploring the wonderful vocabularly which came from the story. My favourite was 'squoosh'. Another's favourite was 'scrambling'. We tapped out a rhythm, 'rat-a-tat-tat'.

In math, the children have been consolidating their counting skills. Counting each object, action or sound only once - 1-1 correspondence. Knowing that it dose not matter how objects are arranged, the number/amount is the same. We need to count in order because the last number is the number of objects, actions or sounds. What can you count at home. Can you sort items into groups to count.

Settling in....

I have been astounded by how resilient they have all been with settling back into a new kind of normal here at Malton Primary. Children are being so sensible with the additional hand washing and systems that they are having to complete. I am already a very proud teacher, having had some lovely comments by other staff and the lunchtime supervisors about the class.

UK School Closures - 19th March Update

Firstly, a huge well done to everyone and thank you for your continued positivity and flexibility during a challenging time.

If your child will be working at home for the forseeable future, they will be leaving school with a home learning pack tomorrow (Friday 20th March). The pack has been designed to offer opportunities for your child to continue learning the knowledge and skills expected of them in the National Curriculum. I would encourage you to explore this pack with your child as they may require some support from you with this.

If your child is continuing to attend school after this week, you are not required to take any action in relation to their learning. School will continue to organise this.
