World War One

We have had a busy term so far, with learning about World War One and rehearsing for our performance.

In literacy, we have been looking at the structure of newspaper articles and how the information is collected. We have created questions to ask a soldier, to find out what happened on the front line on Christmas Day 1914. To find this information, we read letters – which were sent from the soldiers on the front line to their families. We then carried out ‘hot seating’ so we could act as reporters. We are looking forward to writing our newspapers next week.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the war, especially about the trenches. They researched what the trenches were like and wrote a letter (as if they were a soldier) to their families to inform them of the conditions.

In art we have been creating pictures from the war, using the vorticism technique.

The children have been rehearsing for the performance of ‘Tin Hats and Telegrams’ and have made great progress in their speaking and listening skills. We look forward to performing it on Tuesday 4th December at 2pm and Wednesday 5th December at 6pm.

Please ensure your child has their P.E. kits for a Friday. Also, can you please make sure your child has suitable indoor shoes?

Homework is sent home on a Friday, along with spellings and is to be handed in the following Friday.
