Good afternoon All,
Class Attenborough have had a busy term and we have worked extremely hard. We have thoroughly enjoyed our line of enquiry this term; we have travelled all over the world. Our enquiry was, ‘Where in the World Would I Prefer to Live?’ The children looked through travel brochures to get a feeling of different places around the world and they decided they wanted to investigate different areas. We linked this to our Literacy and created persuasive pieces of writing to encourage people to visit their chosen country. We have learnt about New Zealand, New York, Bulgaria, Iceland, Spain, Mexico and lots more. The presentation of these were amazing.
In Maths we have been looking at long multiplication, division with remainders and writing these as fractions and currently we are developing our knowledge on fractions. So far, we have looked at finding equivalent fractions, improper fractions (and how to convert them into mixed numbers), mixed numbers (and how to convert them into improper fractions) and we have sequenced fractions. We will be continuing with fractions at the start of next term.
In history we have been investigating the Mayas, finding out who they were, where they are from, how they communicated, we found out about their number system and also what foods they ate. Next half term our line of enquiry is ‘What did the Mayas do for us?’ so we are going to use our previous knowledge about the Mayas and also further investigate them to create a non-chronological report about how they have influenced our lives today.
Homework is always sent out on a Friday and expected to be completed and handed in the following Friday. Some children in Class Attenborough are not completing this homework and I would like to see this change next half-term. Spellings also are given out on a Friday, children should be practising these regularly, and are tested on these the following Friday. Class Attenborough are extremely lucky that school have purchased a programme called ‘Doodlemaths’ just for our class; this will really help with their subject knowledge and time stables – they should be completing this for 10 minutes, five times a week. We also have TT Rock Stars, which children have logins for to regularly practise their times tables.
Next half term, PE will still be on a Friday, so please can you ensure your child is fully equipped for this.
Also just a gentle reminder about indoor shoes, some children do need theirs replacing as they are broken.
Hope you have a lovely half-term and I am looking forward to seeing you back after a well earned rest.
