Class Nimmo have got straight back into the swing of things with their line of enquiry looking into the postal service. Inspired by "The Jolly Postman" the children wanted to know whether there are postmen/women all over the world. We have started by locating different countries, across all continents, on a world map. The children have been working in pairs to find out more about each country, in particular what their postal service is called, how mail is transported and what can be sent with different stamps.
As part of our literacy sessions we have been writing recounts. This week we will link this to our enquiry looking at a day in the life of an Indian postman. Next week the children will move onto writing a recount as though they are a postman based on the information they have gathered.
In maths we have been looking at place value of 3 and 4 digit numbers. The children can identify what each number represents, work out 10/100 more or less as well as comparing and ordering numbers. Children's learn it's for this half term are 3x table for year 3 and 9x table for year 4 please encourage them to practice at home .They should already be familiar with 2, 5, and 10 times table.
Routines in class Nimmo
Children will need their PE kits on Wednesdays and Fridays (feel free to leave them in school and ensure everything is named).
Reading records will be checked daily as we encourage children to read at home every night. House points will be awarded to those who read everynight.
New spellings will be issued every Tuesday, please practice these at home ready for a test the following Monday.
We have enjoyed getting to know the class over the past few weeks and look forward to seeing where our enquiry will take us next.
