Class Butterworth have enjoyed discovering more about our place in the world. We have thought about where to find Malton on a map, and practised using a map of our school to find our way around. We have compared Malton and Filey, discussing their similarities and differences, and have spent time describing what we like and dislike about both places.
The children all expressed an interest in the need for us to collect our rubbish when we were in Filey, and this has led us to find out more about what and how we can recycle.
We have discovered more about recycling in Malton and compared how we recycle to the job of the ragpickers in India. Many of the children were surprised to learn that the ragpicker children spend time collecting materials to recycle instead of going to school. The children have also made their own proucts, including bird houses and toy castles, using their recycled materials from home. Year One children are now working on their own information leaflets about recycling.
As we progress further into the Summer Term it is important for all children to practise their numbers regularly at home, as well as reading and writing as much as possible. You could always ask them what they have been practising in school. Lots of our Reception children are now writing their own sentences - why not encourage them to show you what they can do at home? This can always be displayed in your child's adventure book, or uploaded onto EExAT for your child's learning journal.
We will continue to have PE lessons on a Thursday afternoon. Please make sure that your child's kit is in school on these days. Feel free to ask if you are unsure what your child's PE kit should include.
Finally, as the weather begins to get warmer it would be helpful if you could send your child to school with their own labelled water bottle (no juice please).
