What important jobs are there and how do you get them? How do you achieve your goals?

In Class Beck, we have continued our enquiry linked to the over arching theme of ‘All About Me’. We completed our wondering and following this, we had a class discussion on which questions would be most suitable to enquire into. We considered which questions could be looked at individually during iTime and we also talked about which enquiries we had completed in previous classes. Following these discussions we decided to focus on the following enquiry questions: ‘What important jobs are there and how do you get them?’ and ‘How do you achieve your goals?’

We recorded what we know already about this area and also questions we would like to answer. We will revisit these at the end of our enquiry and update them with what we have learned. At this stage, we also planned how we are going to ‘land’ our enquiry and we decided that we would research different important jobs so that we could create our own Class Beck Job Fair. We have now moved on to Stage 2 which involved exploring key questions and finding out.

In Literacy, we are completing our work on stories and how moved through phase 1 where we looked at what a good story looks like and created a list of features that we will need to include when we write our improved versions. We then completed phase 2 where we captured the children’s ideas through a focus on vocabulary and finally, the children planned their stories using a story mountain. We are currently in Phase 3 and have begun our first draft of our final stories.

In Numeracy, we have continued to focus on mental and written calculation methods of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We have also applied these skills in order to solve problems. You can help your child by practising times tables and mental calculations with them at home.

P.E day in Class Beck is Friday each week, thank you to everyone who had their correct PE kit in school for the first session of the term.

Home reading is checked daily and children who read five times each week will be rewarded with 2 house points for their efforts. Please remind your child to have their reading record and reading book in school each day. The children have been really enthusiastic about our new home reading books and are very keen to read them. Their reading levels are recorded in their reading records but please come and speak to me or Miss Green if you have any queries about this.

Homework is due in on Friday of each week. Thank you for your support, with the large majority of children returning their homework completed each week

If you have any questions or simply want to share something with me about your child’s learning, please find me in Class Beck before or after school.

Miss Anderson
