Welcome back to Class Beck

Hello all and welcome back to a new school year in Class Beck. I hope you have all had a wonderful summer. The children have settled in well over the first week of the term and are already re-adjusting to our class routines. They are all looking incredibly smart and ready to learn in their new school uniforms.

We are beginning our enquiry linked to the over arching theme of ‘All About Me’ and the children have spent this first week looking at the ‘Wonder Wall’, discussing with their friends and thinking individually to explore the wonders they may have. They have recorded these into their new enquiry books and will now be focusing on what they know already, immersion and generating questions to enquire into. Throughout this enquiry and all of the other learning that the children undertake, they will be closely focused on how they present their work and striving to improve this in any way that they can. We are aiming to be immaculate!

In Literacy, we are beginning a focus on writing stories set in places that the children have been. This has been launched through listening to a story set in the zoo and then completing a ‘cold write’, where the children completed an independent writing task at the beginning of our unit. This will allow them to see how much they have improved once all of the input, learning and hard work has taken place over the next few weeks. The children worked together in partners to give each other feedback on their ‘cold write’ pieces and this will continue throughout the process. We will now be looking at what a good story looks like and create a list of features that we will need to include when we write our improved versions. You can help your child at home by sharing stories with them and talking about what makes them interesting to read.

In Numeracy, we have started our Big Maths with a focus on subtraction as this was an area that some children were finding more challenging during transition. We have also re-focused on times tables and during independent challenge time in the classroom, the children are practising their times tables using games, songs and partner work. As our first piece of numeracy homework, the children have a multiplication wheel sheet to complete. Please help them to solve this and return by Friday 16th September.

A reminder that Tuesday 13th September is Roald Dahl Day where we are encouraging children to dress up as their favourite Roald Dahl character and bring a donation. Please see the recent letter on the website that gives suggestions for costumes.

P.E day in Class Beck is Friday each week, thank you to everyone who had their correct PE kit in school for the first session of the term.

Home reading is checked daily and children who read five times each week will be rewarded with 2 house points for their efforts. Please remind your child to have their reading record and reading book in school each day. The children have been really enthusiastic about our new home reading books and are very keen to read them. Their reading levels are recorded in their reading records but please come and speak to me or Miss Green if you have any queries about this.

If you have any questions or simply want to share something with me about your child’s learning, please find me in Class Beck before or after school.

Miss Anderson
