Harvest Update

A big thank you to the huge numbers of parents who came to see our Harvest Festival performance, your support is really valued and your positive feedback has been lovely to hear. The children thoroughly enjoyed the chance to share their songs with you and have completed a mini-enquiry into Harvest Festivals around the world as part of this.

In Literacy, we have completed phase 3 of our story writing lessons and the children put everything they have learned about the genre into practice in an independent story or ‘hot write’. Our next literacy unit will be focusing on poetry. This includes poems that create an image as well as those with patterns and description. You can help your child by sharing the reading of poems with them at home or look at Michael Rosen on YouTube where he performs a range of his own poems that the children really enjoy.

In Numeracy, we have been focusing on fractions. Lessons have included opportunities for hands on experiences, development of fluency and progressed to problem solving.

Due to our Harvest Festival practice and performance, our All About Me enquiry will be continuing after half term.  We are very excited to have Merry’s mum coming in to support us in the finding out stage of this enquiry. The children have worked in collaborative groups to choose one important job that they would like to enquire into. We have also begun a mini-enquiry into Ancient Egypt, which the children are very enthusiastic about.

Home reading is checked daily and children who read five times each week will be rewarded with 2 house points for their efforts. Please remind your child to have their reading record and reading book in school each day. The children have been really enthusiastic about our new home reading books and are very keen to read them. Their reading levels are recorded in their reading records but please come and speak to me or Miss Green if you have any queries about this.

Homework is due in on Friday of each week. Thank you for your support with this. The vast majority of children are consisitently returning homework on time each week.

If you have any questions or simply want to share something with me about your child’s learning then please find me in Class Beck before or after school.

Miss Anderson
