Class Willow are looking forward to learning about the following during the summer term:
Maths: Our Reception pupils will be continuing to look at counting and subitising. In Year 1, we will be continuing to explore weight and volume. We will then be moving on to multiplication and division.
Writing: In Reception, we are exploring the book ‘The King of Tiny Things’ by Jeanne Willis. In Year 1, we are currently exploring the book ‘Seaside Holidays Then and Now’ by Clare Hibbert. We are looking at writing to inform.
Science: In Year 1, we are learning all about different animals. We are working hard to develop our observational skills!
History: Our history for this half term looks at what Victorian seaside holidays were like. We will then make comparisons to the holidays that we have now and we will look at the similarities and differences between them.
Geography: We will be exploring seaside resorts and why we love being at the seaside so much. We will also be visiting Filey beach in July.
RE: Our Reception pupils are looking at the special times that different religions have. We will be focusing on Christianity, Islam and Judaism. In Year 1, we are looking at who Christians believe made the world. We are going to be exploring the Creation Story.
DT: Our Reception pupils are looking at slider mechanisms. We will be making a greetings card. Year 1 pupils will be exploring food and nutrition. We will be making a portable snack.
PE: Both Reception and Year 1 are working hard to prepare for Sports Day! We are looking at athletics.
Music: Our song is called ‘Big Bear Funk’. We are looking at ways in which we can move to the beat. We are also working hard to talk about what we like and dislike about a song.
PSHE: Both Reception and Year 1 pupils are looking at ‘Relationships’ in PSHE.
In our Early Years Provision, our reception pupils will be looking at the following: Oral Hygiene and Fairies, Sculpture, Stones and Scent, and Flowers and Petals.
Homework: Both Reception and Year 1 pupils will continue to receive a handwriting sheet for their home learning. We will be encouraging children to continue to fill out their adventure books as much as possible. We really enjoy looking at and sharing our books with each other!
Spellings: Year 1 children will continue to receive weekly spellings. They will be given out each Friday.
Reading: Children are encouraged to read at least 3 times a week at home. They will continue to have a home reading book and also a library text.
Children are encouraged to have a full PE kit in school every day. Our PE lessons are on Wednesdays and Fridays.
As always, if you do have any questions or concerns, I am more than happy to either speak to you on the door, or have a meeting if you would prefer. Alternatively, you are welcome to email me with any queries.
Thank you for your continued efforts so far this year.
