Class Willow Blog

Hello Class Willow,

Welcome back! I am so impressed with how well you have all settled in to our classroom routines at school. It is lovely to see everyone approach each half term with such a positive mindset so a big well done to you all.

We have had such a busy half term already, and the next few weeks are going to be filled with lots of exciting things in the run up to Christmas!

In Maths, Year 1 have been busy working on addition and subtraction this half term and we are working really hard to secure our number bonds to 10. In Reception, we have been looking at cardinality and counting.

In Writing, Year 1 have been looking at a variety of narratives and one of our favourites has been ‘The Spacesuit’ by Alison Donald. In Reception, we have been looking at ‘The Weather Girls’ by AKI. We have worked collaboratively to write our own story.

In History, we have been looking at Neil Armstrong and the moon landing. We have really enjoyed looking at all of the different types of evidence, especially the moon rocks!

In Geography, our focus has been all about the weather. We have also explored how the weather affects where we live. We have focused on Antarctica and also the Sahara Desert. We have been using lots of different equipment, including a thermometer and a wind indicator toy.

In Science, we have been looking at the different seasons and how they change. We have taken detailed observations on what the weather is like now, and then we are going to continue to compare these as we move through the seasons and the year. We have also completed lots of scientific experiments and one of our favourites last half term was focused on materials. We were testing out which liquids were easy to stir and which were really hard!

In PSHE, we have been looking at ‘Being Me’ and ‘Celebrating Differences’. We have also completed lots of work around bullying and what it means to be a kind friend.

We have also really enjoyed our PE lessons where we have been looking at gymnastics. We have used a variety of different apparatus to demonstrate different rocking and rolling movements. Our determination and perseverance have really shown throughout our lessons!

Thank you to everyone who has been completing their adventure books as part of our home learning policy. It is wonderful to see all of the exciting things that you have been getting up to. Please continue to read at home, at least 3 times a week, and practise weekly spellings.

You have been working so hard throughout this term Class Willow, so a big well done to you all! Also, a big thank you to all of the parents and carers that are continuing to support us.

As always, if you do have any questions, you are very welcome to either come and see me at the door or email me and I will do my very best to help and support you.

Best wishes,

Miss Boyes
