Class Oaks – Autumn is here

Hello, all parents and friends of Class Oaks. I wanted to share with you our learning journey for the term. The class have impressed me with how well they have settled into our routines. Thank you, parents, for engaging in the first few weeks of homework and for your support with both spellings and reading with your child. It is really good to see that children are enjoying their reading and thank you for all of your comments in the reading journals. Please note that we have changed our policy to Reception weekly spelling tests in response to feedback from parents. Weekly spelling tests are now only for Year 1’s.  It is also great to see how much pride the class have been taking in their appearance with their smart new uniforms and through learning to tuck their shirts in.

This term’s enquiry of “Why do materials matter?” is well underway with us developing our scientific enquiry skills into floating, sinking and slime. Our reading of “The spacesuit” has explored the which materials are most suitable in space. This linked directly with our History lessons where children have been introduced to the term ‘evidence’ in relation to Neil Armstrong’s trip to the Moon. In Art we have been exploring collage and sculpture with representations of space and the Moon. Elsewhere we have been developing our understanding of belonging in Religious Education alongside the PSHE lessons on rules and responsibilities. In Maths we have spent some time developing children’s subitising; which is the skill required to recognise groups objects up to five without counting them. In PE we are working on object manipulation through rolling and throwing balls. Please find the attached weekly timetable. Please do refer to the school Twitter page to find see our daily Tweets.
