The first half term has flown by; the children have worked hard and made good progress.

This half term we are looking at the following:
Maths – we will be consolidating our knowledge of addition and subtraction, learning how to multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000, looking at prime numbers, square numbers, multiples and factors and we will also be looking at fraction.
Times tables are a big part of our maths lives and children need to be fluent in these at Year 5. Please can you ensure your children are practising these at home and also use TTRS. If you need your child’s login details, please ask a member of the Year 5/6 team.
Writing – The text we will base our writing on will be ‘When the Giant Stirred’ and we will be creating a legend narrative and also an explanation text about how volcanoes erupt.
Reading – Our texts we will be focusing on this half-term is The Rainmaker Danced by John Agard and Wonder by R.J. Palacio.
Science – In Science this half-term we are looking at the different Scientific skills we need to be a good scientist.
Geography -We are look in at volcanoes and how they affect the lives of people on Heimaey? (Iceland)
RE – Our enquiry question in RE is ‘Why do Christians believe Jesus was the Messiah?’
In Art we are looking at expressionism.
In PSHE, we are looking at how we are all different and celebrating this fact.
PE is on a Thursday this half-term and we will be looking at basketball. Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit.
School Uniform School uniform continues to be grey skirt/trousers, white skirt, green jumper, plain black/grey/white socks/tights or green gingham summer wear. Each child should wear a house or responsibility tie. Everyone needs a pair of indoor black shoes. Long hair should be tied up, earrings should be studs.
Homework Homework sheets come out weekly covering topics we’ve learnt in class, spellings and practising handwriting. Homework refreshes and consolidates learning the children have undertaken in class. It is issued on a Friday and due back the following Thursday. Participation and completion has been really impressive – thank you.
